What Parents Say About Their Children's Progress

“When we first approached Progressive Tutoring [Spark Thinking], doing homework with Bobbie was a nightmare. She did not understand the basics of third-grade reading and math. We enrolled Bobbie in Progressive Tutoring to get her up to grade level. By the start of the school year in September, it was clear the difference Progressive Tutoring had made in my little girl’s life.

She has gone from Fs in 5th grade to As and Bs in 6th grade. There is no doubt in my mind that Bobbie, her mother, and I will look back at these moments as a turning point in her life. Progressive Tutoring was instrumental in making her successful in her academic pursuits. Thanks for all you do!”

Here's Terrence's Tutoring Success Story

“The intervention plan you outlined for Terrence guided me and gave Terrence goals that improved his reading skills and confidence. His gains during his first intensive summer with you made it all worthwhile, especially when he started school later that fall. Homework became a ‘breeze,’ and even his teachers noticed his use of visualizing skills and improved reading at the phoneme and word level.

Before Spark Thinking, he would literally cry whenever asked to read aloud. After one year with you, he prefers books as gifts!

Thank you for bringing out the absolute best reading and comprehension in my son. I’m excited to see him continue growing as he begins work with you in Math this summer. Spark Thinking has been a true God-send for my son. We are forever grateful!”

The Right Kind of Tutoring Can Change Everything for Your Child

I’m Sylvia Hodges, founder and Learning Specialist at Progressive Tutoring – Spark Thinking. I’m a teacher with over 28 years of experience, and my mission is to give children access to the kind of personalized, targeted support that changed my brother’s life.

When my brother was in kindergarten, he began struggling in school. At first, my mom hoped he would catch up—but instead, his challenges grew. She turned to his teachers for help, but they didn’t know how to support him. Frustrated by the lack of resources, she spent years searching for answers and the right support before it was too late.

Everything changed when we finally found experienced specialists who identified the root cause of his struggles. They understood both his strengths and his challenges—and, most importantly, how to teach him in a way that made learning stick.

After years of frustration, my brother began to thrive—not just temporarily, but consistently.

Today, he is a board-certified ENT surgeon and medical school professor.

That’s why I do this work—so families can find answers sooner, and children can gain the skills and confidence they need to truly thrive.
