Chaar proposa de nous montrer un site que nous navions jamais visité et dont nous navions guère trouvé mention chez les voyageurs amateurs de vestiges romano-byzantins, le tell Jefneh. Il sagit dun beau volcan, au nord-est de Sahwet el-Khodr, juste à lest de Kafr. Au milieu des vignes et des vergers, le tell Jefneh se dresse à 1 700 m, facile à reconnaître grâce à son couronnement rocheux. Après une ascension pédestre assez facile, nous arrivâmes près du sommet, dans un éboulis de blocs informes. La vue sétend vers le sud jusquau piton de la citadelle de Ṣalkhad, au nord vers le Jebel Quleib et le tell Ghineh, point culminant du Jebel al-Arab. Le tell Jefneh lui-même présente sur cette face du sommet une sorte densellement entre deux éminences fig 2. Lespace est occupé par une masse de blocs écroulés fig. 3 que le père A. Beaulieu, préhistorien, avait repérée lors de ses visites dans le Jebel, et signalée brièvement dans sa publication de 1944 comme une grande ville. Le site a été visité beaucoup plus tard par Frank Braemer qui signale létat déplorable des ruines et le vol de tous les blocs taillés, et identifie un grand bâtiment sur le flanc sud et de petites structures rondes vers le bas du site, peut-être des tours de surveillance des champs ou des tombes. Il note que le matériel de surface consiste en de la céramique romaine tardive et médiévale et que rien ne laisse supposer une occupation pré-romaine.
